A Simplified Education About SEO
By no means is SEO an easy skill to learn. Sure, you can take a course, and learn how to build links in a mere matter of hours, however the real key to learning SEO comes from implementing it in your day to day business. What exactly do I mean when I say this? I mean that by building links, finding out what works and what doesn’t, and following changes, this is ultimately going to determine your success rate. That said, lets cover some of the bare bones basics of an SEO campaign, how to build links, and most importantly, make sure that you know how to get your backlinks indexed.
The first thing that I really want to mention at this point is that SEO really is not a game that you set out to win at. In fact, in most niches, the end goal of your work is something that you do not win ownership of. More or less, you achieve it, and continue to compete in order to maintain it. For example, lets say that you achieve the #1 position for a keyword in Google, there are always going to be other people who are competing for this phrase, which means that achieving that number one position is only half of the process. You need to make sure that you keep that position. Lets not forget that some keywords will be completely unattainable as well, as this is more of a resource game rather than what level of experience that you have. Whilst this may be the case, remember that some lower competition keywords can also bring in a very nice income as well, and can be quite easy to win.
Apart from being about keywords, SEO is also about links. In fact, in large part, the search engines will count a total number of backlinks pointing to any one page, and this will play a large part towards determining how a page ranks for a particular keyword. Now, it is all too easy to say that you only need more backlinks to outrank your competition, but this is not the case. In fact, it is also a matter of reputation. For example, you may have 100 links from low value and “unknown” websites, but your competition will have much less, but these links will be from highly reputable websites. On top of that, your competition will rank higher than you, and you have a great deal of trouble outranking them. How is this done? Simple. You play the game, and find some high authority links. This is the fun of SEO.
The other thing that is very well worth understanding is that in order for your backlink building and SEO work to be worth your time, the search engines will need to be aware of any links that you have created. Unfortunately, the search engines are not psychic, and can not automatically dig out your links from the billions that are currently live. In order to do this, you simply need to generate a link from a page that is already indexed in the search engines. This simple method of backlinks indexing will save you many headaches at a later date, and will save you doing much more work than you need to.
Last and certainly not least, the game of SEO is always changing. The search engines are always changing, and methods are being rendered ineffective every single week. The key to surviving in the game of search engine rankings is to consistently be putting what you know into action. No one else is going to teach you what truly works, you have to learn it first hand, and the best way is to get started now, and put what you know into action. Who knows, you may even end up ranking quite well for your favorite keyword!
